Infrared Thermography

HECO uses infrared thermography cameras, also known as thermal imagers, to detect problems with your assets.

By reading the thermal infrared images, HECO can interpret electrical and mechanical heat signatures and learn more about the equipment’s condition. This in turn, can be instrumental in minimizing downtime.

Electrical Inspections

Infrared technology is an extremely cost-effective way to find failing components, bad connections, and load imbalances. Knowing ahead of time that there will be a problem means repairs can be made on a regular basis instead of when an emergency occurs.

Among the things we scan with thermal imagers are:

  • Switchgear
  • Motor Control Centers
  • Machine Control Panels
  • Overhead Bus
  • Distribution Panels
  • Transformers
  • Disconnects

Mechanical / Process

HECO uses infrared thermography in mechanical and process applications to discover and record thermal patterns and associated temperatures. When regularly scheduled, these inspections can give more detail on equipment failures.

Among the many items we can scan are:

  • Rotating Equipment
  • Motors & Generators
  • Refractory Systems
  • Boilers & Furnaces
  • Process Piping
  • Air Ducts
  • Bearings
