Siemens & Simotics Electric Motors - What's the Difference? - HECO

March 28, 2016

At HECO, we get this question a occasionally, “What’s the difference between Siemens electric motors and Simotics electric motors?”

“In a word…nothing”, I tell our customers.

“Apparently, back in 2012, Siemens’ marketing felt a brand change was the ticket. Therefore, Siemens marketing came up with a fresh name for their electric motors, Simotics, rather than Siemens electric motors. Most of our customers still call them Siemens.”

I continue with our customers, “I believe Siemens motors wanted to create a consistent brand theme around the Siemens automation solutions and related products such as, Simotion (PLC controllers) and Sinumerik (CNC controllers) and so the name Simotics for the motor component of the drivetrain seemed to fit.”

“Yep…it can be confusing for some of our customers. But, Siemens still provides the most comprehensive and impressive series of electric motors in the world. HECO is proud to be one of the few Siemens distributors in the area”
